We Are:
Paul Drews: Banjo/vocals: I was raised on a steady diet of Bach organ preludes. At some point I decided to chuck it all and become a banjo player, and have never looked back. With 2 Licks 2 Many, I aim to play lots of fairly dangerous bluegrass music. Going out on a limb musically, and then sawing it off and trying to make that work really gets the old blood pumping. Sure I make lots of mistakes - that's where the fun begins. If I start playing such safe music that I get it right every time then you can push me over and bury me because I've failed to notice that I'm dead.
Linda Shewchuk: Slap Bass/Vocals: I was raised on the prairies of Alberta listening to my family playing and singing Bluegrass and Old Time Music but never knew what it was until 7 years ago when my father left me his old banjo and I dared to try to play it.... I fell in love. At the same time, I moved to Portland and found an active Bluegrass community that accepted me with open arms. I was then introduced to the upright Bass, and I was hooked again. I love the sound and character of Bluegrass music and the people who play it.
Tim Dawdy: Dobro/Vocals: The hardest working Fire Chief in Show Business! A native Oregonian, I joined 2 Licks 2 Many in 2009. I play dobro, occasionaly sing, and perform faith healing for shills planted in the audience. I'm often noted for my irreverent love of music and humor, and appear regularly on the bluegrass police "Ten Most Wanted List" for mixing musical styles and laughing about it. I've studied Dobro with Stacy Phillips, Michael Witcher, Don Rook, Mike Neer and Phil Leadbetter. I've also studied Steel Guitar with Joe Wright, Bobby Black and Larry Behm. My favorite quote: "Don't ask me to sing! I just want to play my Dobro".
Rick King: Guitar/vocals: I was raised in a family with a lot of music around and started playing guitar around the age of twelve. I got caught up in the folk, rock, folk-rock, western, blues, blues-rock, country-blues, and western-folk-blues-rock crazes of the 60s and 70s. Its all just a blur to me now, thank goodness for the term Americana. I've got a thing for bluegrass, probably fueled a lot by a dad who played the fiddle and a mom who listened to gospel music, got stuck in me real good. I joined 2 Licks 2 Many in June of 2009 and Im lovin' it! Traditional Bluegrass with a twist ... where some of those old crazes of mine can leak in. Cool!
Glenn Denison: Mandolin/vocals: As far as I can remember, I started playing mandolin in the late 1970s, and achieved a degree of recognition performing Old Time fiddle tunes, and songs with the "Busted Gut String Band". After a lengthy period exploring the Zen of music without sound, I've returned to the mandolin, and now do my best to play something resembling bluegrass, which I love especially for the soulful harmonies, and desperately sad lyrics. My technique has been described as "upbeat", and "encouraging to beginning players".

Former members and guests:
Mike LaVarnway: Guitar/vocals: I was raised in Irving Texas and relocated to the Portland area back in 2002. I started playing guitar when I was about 10 years old and spent many a Saturday night with my eyes glued to the Philco TV set watching The Big D Jamboree and right after that it was time for The Cowtown Jamboree. My thoughts were always, "Just let me play music", anytime and anywhere and any kind. I always genuinely loved the bluegrass music with the incredible harmonies and the melody notes of the mandolins and banjos and dobros. I was asked to join 2 Licks 2 Many in September 2008 and it has been one of the most enjoyable things that I have ever done.
Darrell Allison: Dobro/Vocals: After a lifetime, or two, of singing along with 78RPM records, 8-track and cassette tapes, and finally CD's, I became obsessed with playing a bluegrass instrument. I chose the blandest one - the Dobro of course! In 1990 I graduated from the Steeplegrass School of Music (Thanks Chick and Nadine!) In my leads, I aim for the thin line between tasteful and distasteful - never knowing which will surface. I like the stage humor of the 50's/60's, and try to bring some of that spirit to our shows. I hope you'll laugh with me, or at me, and certainly, proven over and over again, cry with me.
Peyton Starr: Guitar/vocals: Music: Been there done it all rock/to 50's. Originally from Texas so C/W of course, but Bluegrass has had my heart and soul for many years. Bluegrass has an artful, acoustic style all its own. Some have said "its not what you play that counts, its what you don't play". As for me, I sure give it my all, continue to learn always, and strive for the best of show every time I play.
Rich Grimes: Guitar/Bass: I've been involved in Bluegrass for about twenty years and just completed nine years of traveling full time across the U.S. attending Bluegrass festivals. I was the original bass player with 2 Licks and later, filled, in on guitar for a few months. I hope to still be involved with 2 Licks when needed, to supply material, tell jokes, laugh at and occasionaly supply some "Adult Supervision"
Kathleen Tyau: Mandolin/vocals: My musical roots range from singing Hawaiian songs with my uncles in my grandmother's garage to serenading my classmates on school bus excursions with "Ninety-nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall." Flash forward to the day Paul came home with a banjo, and I took up the guitar in self defense and then the mandolin because I was hooked on bluegrass! The best part about playing with 2 Licks 2 Many is wearing a beard for "Pearl, Pearl, Pearl." Just call me John Lennon's Amish love child.
